Public Works Department is responsible for construction & maintenance of Roads, Bridges, Government buildings, Ports & works related to Inland Water Transport.

Public Works Department is responsible for construction and maintenance of Government buildings. While it has its own budget for construction and maintenance of buildings.

The Road Network maintained by the Department consists of National highways, State Highways & Major District Roads. Most of the road network length is either Single Lane or Intermediate Lane.
