Introduction

  • The Department of Architecture was established in 1910 and is functioning as an independent Department since 30.10.1986. The Central office of the Department of Architecture is functioning at Bangalore and a division office at Dharwad.
  • Eminent Architects like Sri. Krumbiegel, Sri Konies Berger, Sri Charles Correa, Sri B.R. Manickam etc., have served in this Department as Government Architects.
  • From the time of inception of the Department, Architectural designs have been prepared in this office for many prestigious state government buildings such as Vidhana Soudha, High court of Karnataka, Ravindra Kalakshetra, Legislators Home, Victoria Hospital, Raj Bhavan, Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic, (SJP) Kumara Krupa Guest house, Mayo hall, Central College, Ashoka Hotel, Town hall, etc., to name a few.

Objectives

  • The main objective of the department is to furnish Architectural Design drawings for buildings of various Government Departments throughout the State. These are prepared based on the requirements furnished by the user department & site conditions.
  • The department also furnishes Architectural Drawings to Quasi-Government Organizations, Autonomous Bodies, Boards, Universities, Zilla Panchayat, Corporations & Municipalities etc., on request from the concerned organizations.
  • The department is functioning presently with a team of Architects and other supporting Technical staff in various cadres, under the guidance of the Principal Chief Architect. The department is equipped with sophisticated computers, latest software and peripherals. A dedicated team of Architects are professionally involved in “ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNING AND ENHANCING THE AESTHETICS OF THE GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS”.
  • This department is competent in designing the Government buildings Architecturally to blend with the past and to suit the present style while adopting the changing trends in construction technology and new construction materials.
